Trimming and Pruning

Deadwood out, limbs off the roof, the tree kept healthy.

Trimming and Pruning in Houston

Most trees never need removing. They need the deadwood taken out, the canopy thinned so a storm wind passes through instead of pushing against it, and the limbs lifted clear of the roof, the driveway and the fence line. On the Gulf coast that thinning matters more than people expect, because a dense untouched canopy acts like a sail in a hurricane and takes the whole root plate with it. Done at the right time of year, pruning makes a tree safer and makes it live longer.

We cover Houston, Humble, Kingwood, Conroe and north Harris County. If you are not sure whether this is the job you need, ring and describe the tree, it takes about two minutes to work out.

Where

Trimming and Pruning across the Houston area

Houston

The home patch. Older inner neighbourhoods carry big water oaks and pecans planted far too close to the slab, and they are now bigger than the houses they shade.

Humble

Loblolly pine country on sandy ground. Pines here grow tall and straight with the canopy all at the top, which is exactly the shape that catches a storm wind and takes the roots with it.

Kingwood

The Livable Forest, and the trees were there before the streets were. Dense pine on almost every lot, tight access between houses, and removals that have to come down in pieces because there is nowhere to drop anything.

Atascocita

Lakeside subdivisions on sandy soil, where a shallow root plate and a wet spring are a bad combination. A pine that has started leaning here rarely straightens up again.

Conroe

Bigger lots and genuine acreage, so the work is more often clearing and storm damage than a single ornamental. Longer driveways and overhead runs change how the kit gets in.

Spring

Established subdivisions from the seventies and eighties, which means mature pines that have had forty years to grow over a roof line nobody expected them to reach.

The Woodlands

Planned around its tree cover, with real preservation rules attached. Most of the work is careful reduction and deadwooding rather than removal, and knowing which is which saves an argument later.

Porter

Rural parcels and wooded back sections, where the job is usually access first and cutting second. What happens to the brush afterwards decides most of the cost.

New Caney

Acreage and treelines along property boundaries, plus a lot of land being cleared for building. Clearing a line of mature pine is a volume job, not a tree job.

Crosby

Open country with old oaks standing alone in a field, which is where you see the heavy horizontal limbs that eventually split at the fork. Cabling or reducing them beats losing half the tree.
